Authentication of Aboriginal Art

by native aboriginals. The Armen Art Gallery / Ravenspirit.ca provides
complete documentation to verify the authenticity of each work exhibited
by the gallery.
Aboriginal sculptures are highly prized as Canadian souvenirs and
as art objects. This popularity has unfortunately resulted in the
proliferation of mass-produced reproductions and imitations. These
items, particularly imitation sculptures made of plastic, ceramic
or "cast stone", sometimes tempt the uninformed consumer
by their lower price. However, such imitations generally have no
investment or aesthetic value whatsoever, and are in no way endorsed
by the Canadian government or the first nations of Canada. In fact,
they tend to lower the image and reduce the sales of genuine aboriginal
works, thus depriving aboriginal artists of income.
